  • Shepherd's Slab Hut

Slab Hutrmap2017-02-23T15:44:17+11:00

The shepherd’s hut, a slab building c1840, is Tamworth’s oldest surviving building. It housed the shepherd who was required to care for large mobs of sheep as there were no fences in the early days.  This is probably the only such hut left of thirty two that dotted the Australian Agricultural Company’s huge holding.  This hut and the main Calala Cottage are the only original buildings on the site.
